Downtown Dexter, the heart of our Village, is picturesque
and historic. It is home to several terrific restaurants, a variety of
shops and boutiques, and services such as insurance and banking. The Chamber

Desk) is an excellent source of information about the businesses in Dexter.
Many years ago the Village Council decided to form a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to help create a vibrant downtown for our residents and the surrounding area. The DDA is now one of the most active groups within the Village, having spent over two million dollars on streetscape and infrastructure improvements in the last ten years. The DDA continues to develop projects that attract and retain businesses in the Village's downtown, including adding a new parking lot in 2003, the Monument Park project in 2005, and the Farmers Market in 2006.
The streetscape implemented by the DDA has encouraged owners to invest in and improve the appearances of their historic buildings. This has led to increased tenancy and the growth of new business opportunities. As a result, the Village has experienced a new phenomenon - lack of room. The Village and the DDA are now working together in the development of long-term expansion plans of the downtown, including the acquisition of property for new buildings, increased parking and pedestrian improvements.
