Downtown
Dexter, the heart of our Village, is picturesque and historic. It is
home to several terrific restaurants, a variety of shops and boutiques,
and services such as insurance and banking. The Chamber
of Commerce at Years ago the Village Council decided to form a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to help create a vibrant downtown for our residents and the surrounding area. The DDA continues to develop projects that attract and retain businesses in the Village's downtown, including adding a new parking lot in 2003, the Monument Park project in 2005, the Farmers Market in 2006, and the Jeffords improvements in 2008/2009. Improvements in 2009 and 2010 include the Main Street Bridge project and the Mill Creek Park project. The streetscape implemented by the DDA has encouraged owners to invest in and improve the appearances of their historic buildings. This has led to increased tenancy and the growth of new business opportunities. As a result, the Village has experienced a new phenomenon - lack of room. The Village and the DDA are now working together in the development of long-term expansion plans of the downtown, including the acquisition of property for new buildings, increased parking and pedestrian improvements. |
